The essential storyline is, monsters are released from R. At times you kinda wish that there were more monster moments. Stine's help after all monsters, demons and creatures from the Goosebumps franchise begin to escape from their books, wreaking havoc in the real world. I found it to be an interesting plot to have an authors creations from his books come to life when the books are opened. I'm not going to say goosebumps is a perfect movie though, I mean a lot of the main plot points are clichés, and while I liked Black's performance because I thought it was over the top crazy which he does quite well , others might not find it as amusing. I enjoyed this movie thoroughly. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange. A teenage boy Zach and his mom move to Delaware, where Zach promptly runs into his next door neighbor Hannah and her odd father. You can clearly tell it was a computer generated creature. Using all the monsters creates more story-telling possibilities and the self-awareness that was at play worked. It was a bit too much of everything. Also, the trailer was not very convincing. The best is the enemy of the good. Stine finally gets an upgrade from the small screen to a major motion picture by Sony Pictures, and we're satisfied. Dylan Minette proved his talent and range as the teenaged protagonist. Intellectually and emotionally this is at the level of high school with the classic high school tropes: young kid moves to a new school, falls in love with a weird girl, geeky virgin wants to get laid so desperately tries to be his friend, oh and there is high school prom. It's not scary if you're a grown ass young adult like I am, but the entire time you appreciate the scares cause it would frighten you if you were a lot younger.
